NEW HONDA MOBILIO

The Honda Mobilio seven seater MPV is raring to go in the India market. The Bio-based MPV is to rival the likes of Maruti Ertiga, Mahindra Xylo and Chevrolet Enjoy. Powered by either petrol or diesel engine, the Honda Mobilio is expected to be priced in the region of Rs.6.25- 9Lakh. With people drawn towards the convenience and advantage of MPV, Honda is ready to make its presence felt in this segment.

Engine and performance

The Honda Mobilio is expected to be fitted with both fuel options. The 1.5 litre 16Vi.DTEC 4 cylinder petrol engine powers the petrol variant. The very same engine that powers Honda City generates 116 bhp at 6600 rpm and a maximum torque of 146Nm at 4800 rpm. It is likely that the diesel model will be equipped with the 1.5 litre 16 Vi. DTEC engine which powers Honda Amaze. This one produces 98.6 bhp at 3600 rpm and a peak torque of 200 Nm at 1750 rpm. Both the variants come with manual and automatic transmission options. The diesel model offers a mileage around 17.2kmpl.

Exterior

The Brio design is ideal for being used on an MPV. The decisive sharp lines are attractive and the car has a sporty flavor to it. The front look is appealing. Besides, It has a thick chrome bar in the honeycomb grille like the Amaze. The rounded headlamps enhance the beauty of the grille. The hood is slightly raised and it gives the car a muscular look that an MPV requires. As for the side profile, the swage lines become more prominent towards the rear of the car and they curve below the turn indicators. The body colored ORVMs make the car look sporty. Rear of the car is simple and looks similar to that of Innova. Taillights with turn indicators and a small grille above the reflector enhance the rear beauty.

Interior

The Honda Mobilio is spacious enough to accommodate seven passengers comfortably. The front rows provide ample room with adjustable third row which can accommodate children. The interior has a much better appeal than Amaze and Brio, though it is built on the same Amaz-Brio platform. The three-spoked steering wheel can be adjusted to suit the driver’s comfort. The car is expected to come with integrated music system and steering mounted audio controls. Electrically operated ORVMs, fuel consumption display and cup-holders in the front and the rear are other features that the Mobilio offers.

Features and specifications

The Honda Mobilio never compromises on safety. The car is fitted with quality braking system with disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear. Abs with EBD ensures that the car does not skid. Besides, there are also other features like keyless entry, engine immobilizer, fog lamps and dual air bags. The car handles well in all terrains.
With outstanding fuel efficiency and performance to boast of, the Mobilio is going to be tough competitor ready to the Indian MPV users

Maruti Suzuki plans 800cc diesel engine, may deliver 30kmpl average

MUMBAI: For Maruti Suzuki, India's largest carmaker, this could well be the game changer in the  small car segment which makes up for 45% of the market.

The company is working overtime on developing a small two-cylinder 800cc diesel engine along with its parent Suzuki Motor Corp in Japan, three people in the know said. EThas learnt that the engine is codenamed E2, and the Japanese parent is taking the lead for its development. The all-new diesel engine is likely to punch 40 horsepower and may deliver fuel efficiency of 25-30 kilometers to a liter.

Suzuki Planning Bigger Diesel Engine For SUV

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. has plans to develop a new 1.5L diesel engine. The engine will be developed in-house and used in the compact SUV on Swift's platform.

The Japanese manufacturer currently uses Fiat's 1.3L diesel engine in it's cars. It uses the engine in all of their diesel offerings. That include the Swift, Ritz, Dzire and SX4, however 75Ps power is not favourable for a SUV.

Rival compact SUV's like Renault Duster, Ford Eco-Sport and Honda's SUV based on the Brio, all have powerful diesel options.

Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director and CEO MSIL says, "The 1.3-litre Fiat engine is a little small for a SUV. We would like to have an engine that has a power of at least 90Ps or thereabout". He also adds, "Suzuki is developing a range of diesel engines and we are looking at a suitable 1.5-litre powertrain. Fiat also has a bigger 1.6-litre engine, all options are open".

Maruti Suzuki has displayed the concept XA Alpha, during Delhi Auto Expo 2012. It generally takes a company two years to develop a car from concept stage, however the SUV will be available only by 2015 in Indian markets.

IAB Report – Mercedes India will launch either CLA or GLA in 2014, NOT both

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the Center of Excellence launch which took place at Mercedes India’s Chakan plant, Matthias Lührs, Chairman of the Board of Management, Mercedes-Benz India and Vice-President-Global Sales, Mercedes-Benz, said that the company will launch one of the new generation compact cars (NGCC) in India next year.

Lührs did not specify the NGCC the company would launch, and among the four products available globally, Mercedes India already has two in its portfolio – the A and B Class.

The upcoming model for India could be the compact, four-door coupe, the CLA Class, or the recently unveiled soft-roader, the GLA Class.

There is a very good reason why Mercedes cannot launch both cars in India next year. Global demand for these NGCC cars is far outpacing supply, even though production at Rastatt, Germany (which makes the A, B and GLA Class) and Kecskemét, Hungary (which makes the A, B and CLA Class) is running at full steam.

In fact, earlier this year, Mercedes India had to request its headquarters to allocate more cars, as demand for the A Class exceeded supply.

While the company can only launch one NGCC next year, Mercedes says that it will complete its product portfolio in India by 2016.

Though the A and B Class are imported into India currently, Mercedes is keen to start local assembly of these cars soon. This year, the company has invested INR 250 crore to double its annual capacity from 10,000 to 20,000 units.

Renault Duster- D Cross

At the Sao Paulo International Motor Show in Brazil, Renault took the wraps of a very interesting concept called the DCross. This gives the impression of a snazzy Dacia Duster in auto show clothing.

Renault announced it has set new sales records in Brazil and is now the 5th biggest brand there. So, will the Duster help out even more once it’s gone into production there? Well, no, since Renault already sells a rebranded version of the Dacia crossover.

This concept is more of a celebration the Duster’s success, as the Brazilian designers wanted to give it a stronger, bolder look. Done in a style not unlike Nissan’s own concepts, the DCross features a lime green finish at the front and matte black at the rear.

The Duster sports new headlights, grille bumpers, underbody protectors, side kickers, door mirrors and a rally-style spare wheel on the roof.

Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition launched

The Cayenne Platinum Edition will be available only with the base V6 petrol engine, and diesel engine.

However, this edition will be available only on Cayenne Diesel and Cayenne V6 models. Features such as bi-xenon headlights, privacy glass, 19-inch Cayenne Design II wheels with colored Porsche crests, ParkAssist, anti-dazzle interior mirrors, partial leather seats, SportDesign steering wheel, Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system and GPS navigation system are part of the standard equipment.

The Cayenne V6 is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 petrol engine producing 300 hp and 400 Nm of torque. This base variant of the Cayenne can do the 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.8 seconds and onwards to a top-speed of 230 km/h. In the European driving cycle, the Cayenne V6 achieves 8.9 km/l and emits 263 g of CO2 per km.

The Cayenne diesel on the other hand is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine outputting 245 hp and 550 Nm of torque. The diesel Cayenne does 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, and hits a top-speed of 220 km/h. With CO2 emissions of 189 g/km, it achieves 13.88 km/l.

The Platinum Edition will go on sale in Germany in January 2014, and is priced at 66,379 euros (INR 56.26 lakhs) for the V6 petrol, and 67,212 euros (INR 56.97 lakhs) for the Cayenne diesel.

Suzuki carried out a minor facelift exercise on the Swift for the European and Japanese markets in July this year. CarToq reports that Maruti will carry out that facelift for the Swift and Swift Dzire in the first quarter of the next year. There is a good possibility for Maruti to show the updated cars at the Auto Expo, which takes place in the first week of February 2014.

While the exterior changes are limited to the installation of LED daytime running lights, the top-end ZXi/ZDi variants of these vehicles are likely to receive more features. Maruti would include features such as cruise control, keyless entry with engine starter button, auto-up function for the driver’s side power window, leather wrapped steering wheel and a dual-tone dashboard on these variants. Furthermore, the report suggests the addition of 16-inch alloy wheels and a revised front grille.

The mechanicals of these cars will remain unchanged (though in Europe, the new Swift diesel achieves 7 percent better fuel efficiency and reduced emissions). The 1.2-liter K-Series powers the petrol range, while the Fiat-sourced 1.3-liter MultiJet engine powers the diesel models.

CarToq suggests that Maruti could increase the prices of the top-end models by INR 50,000-60,000 given the added features. A minor price increase could be rolled out on the other variants as well.

Renault Duster Detour

At the 2013 Johannesburg International Motor Show which opens to the pubic on the 18th of October, Renault South Africa will present the Renault Duster Detour concept.

Duster Detour design for wild at heart:-

Renault describes its Duster Detour concept as having a hint of ‘Mad Max and a touch of the Termitator’ with its two-tone ‘Pearl Yellow’ and Matt Grey exterior. A touch of Dakar influence can also be seen in the 18-inch customised alloy wheels which are fitted with all terrain tyres in widened wheel arches.

SWIFT 4x4

Suzuki Swift 4×4 launched in the UK; Sports higher ground clearance and off-road package

The (Maruti) Suzuki Swift 4×4 model has just gone on sale in the UK markets. The Swift 4×4 (or all wheel drive if you want to call it that) was already available in the German and Swiss markets and UK is being added to the list now.

The 4×4 Swift will be available only with the 1.2-liter petrol engine which will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The automatic transmission is not being offered. Also, you can only have the Swift 4×4 in the five-door body style.

The 4WD system is a fully automatic and permanent one. It transfers additional torque to the rear wheels only when required via a viscous coupling. Overall, the 4WD Swift weighs a mere 65kg heavier than its 2WD sibling.

CO2 emissions of 126g/km is being claimed for the 4×4 Swift, which is only 10g/km more than the equivalent 2WD version.

There are two variants available: SZ3 or SZ4. Both have their ground clearances increased by an additional 25mm. However, the SZ4 has a few interesting details.
