Launched in 1966 in Japan, the name Sunny was christened after conducting a campaign in Japan, wherein 8 million participated. Currently in it’s tenth generation, the present generation Sunny was launched in the Guangzhou Motor Show in China in December 2010 and has made way into India in just 10 months time.
The Sunny will be Nissan’s second mass market car in India, the first being the Micra which was launched last year. Both these cars are based on Nissan’s ‘V’ or Versatile platform. We drive the all new Sunny in Chennai and find out if it cuts the mustard.

Suzuki Swift Sports Showcased At Frankfurt
Swift lovers in India got a first real upgrade on the Swift just recently after half a decade The old car was started to look dated in front of the new competitors which were based on a more futuristic design concept. On the international front Swift has showcased the Swift S Concept last time at Geneva and at Frankfurt this year Suzuki has showcased the Swift Sport finally. Fans all over the world were early waiting for the production version of the Swift S Concept and here it is finally. Smaller than the original Swift, this one comes in a two door version and packs 134 horsepower’s along with 160 Nm of torque, the M16A petrol engine is matted to a 6 speed manual gearbox and the car is a front wheel drive.
Since it’s a Sport version the suspensions are stiffer and there is an aggressive stance to the car. The Sport Swift wears 17 inch low profile tyres fixed with some neat wheels. In the inside you will find sporty seats with high quality fit and finish also the five-dial meter cluster that combines easy legibility with an uncluttered look. Speaking about safety this car is 5 star rated for Euro NCAP and has seven airbags as standard. Also there is EPS, EBD, ABS. Suzuki plans to launch the new Swift Sport in a growing number of countries, beginning this October, with sales launch in the UK from early next year. We hope Suzuki plans the Sports Swift for India, Even though it is petrol there are enough Swift fans in India who will willingly buy this car.

2012 Toyota Fortuner Spied In Delhi
After Toyota introduced the Fortuner facelift in the International market it had to hit the Indian shores very soon and here it is. Spied in Delhi the new Fortuner Facelift in all its might draped in white is wearing a Prado like grille. The new Fortuner seems more matured and a part of the Toyota SUV family. Engine options are expected to be the same 3.0-liter masculine motor but the spy snaps show the presence of an autobox which is a welcoming alteration in the car. With the autobox in place the king of the segment will even cater to the niche market which looks forward for the Automatic version which currently is overshadowed by the Ford Endeavour. There are talks about the 4X2 version for the new Fortuner which will be priced lower to cater to a larger target audience.
The New Fortuner comes with a DVD touch screen system, new headlight, tail lamps, new design alloys, intercooler scoop, new bumpers and a few more things. We can spot this new Fortuner in the Auto Expo 2012 which will be held in January. Looking at the previous Fortuner there is no doubt this one will sell in volumes even in Tier II cities.

Fiat PANDA Coming to India
Fiat India after the small tiff between Tata have gone on a single way through their own showrooms will have tough times as the company has very less offerings to the buyers, two to be specific both of which look the same – The Punto and the Linea both of which are doing no good for Fiat. If this trend continues it would take Fiat back to their old days and they will finally have to make an exit. In an desperate attempt to enter the market again with a new product Fiat is planning the ‘Panda’ for India. The Fiat Panda has a history of 30 years, back in 1980 Panda has been a major break through for Fiat and it sold like hot cakes.
Following the first gen, the second generation Panda made its debut in 2003 which also did a decent job for Fiat and most importantly it set a base for Fiat 500. At Frankfurt Fiat showcased the third and the latest version of the Panda which is expected to make its Indian debut in mid-2012. With Panda, Fiat will enter the mass market which is pretty much dominated by the Maruti Suzuki camp. Looking at the Panda from the exterior itself it looks much better than any of the Maruti cars in its segment. Inside the car the whole setup and buttons look perfect and refreshing new. Under the hood there are not less than six engine option out of which we can expect one petrol and one diesel engine to make its way in India.
All powerplants will be offered at launch with a five-speed manual gearbox, with a semiautomatic “Dualogic” becoming an choice later. In 2012, an obstacle detection system that operates below 30 km/h and can automatically apply the brakes if the driver doesn’t intervene will also become available. The Nuova Panda will be available in three trim levels, 10 body colors and four different interiors, subsequent in 600 possible different combinations. Production will commence in November at Fiat’s Naples factory.

Mumbai Police To Use Tata Nano
Seeing the Nano everyday draped in its normal avatar passing by in yellow, grey, red and other colours but the next time you see a Nano in Mumbai don’t be surprised to see it as a police vehicle. Yes, you heard it right after entering the taxi business in Sri Lanka, Tata Nano is trying to fit in the Police enforcement capacity. The car is proposed by Tata company officials who paid a visit to the Mumbai Police HQ and proposed the use of Tata Nano as a secondary car which will replace the bikes. Generally Police patrolling is done on two wheelers as it’s easy to get in the naughty small lanes of Mumbai. Nano will be sold to the Police under the USP of being able to squeeze in tight places and carry artillery as the car provides more storage than a two-wheeler.
One such Police Nano is kept in the Commissioner’s office for examination and efficiency tests. Nothing is finalised yet and more details are yet to emerge. What we wonder is with issues of the Nano’s rear engine and more Nano’s getting burnt down is it really safe enough for the Police use and secondly is it strong enough to withstand the hardship a Police car has to go under every day? Well Mumbai Police will consider all this points and hopefully come to a solution. What do you think will a Police Nano work?

Tata Motors To Share Engines With JLR
Tata Motors will be sharing its engines with Jaguar Land Rover. This is a two way flow of technology with engines from the stable of Jaguar Land Rover featuring in Tata cars and probably vice versa too. While this will certainly benefit Tata Motors to a great extent, the same cannot be said for JLR. Tata Motors can use the 2.2-liter diesel engine which powers the Jaguar XF and Land Rover Freelander 2 an upcoming product, while Jaguar and Land Rover cars could use the 2.2-liter DICOR motor which powers the Safari SUV and the Aria crossover. Any which ways, Tata Motors now has the technology but needs more ingeniously designed products to utilize the available engines from the British company. Will you buy a Land Rover powered by a Tata engine?
