Whether it is about selling cars or organizing motorsports activities, Maruti Suzuki has always been the frontrunner in the Indian automotive industry. With events such as the Raid-de-Himalaya, Desert Storm, Dakshin Dare etc., which are being held yearly without fail, the manufacturer has been continuously encouraging enthusiasts to actively participate in motorsports. Moving forward on similar lines so as to promote and strengthen women participation in motorsports, Maruti Suzuki concluded an all women car rally in Pune recently.
The one-day event was held over a 120-kilometer route in and around the Pune city and was flagged off from Hotel Four Points. The initiative got tremendous reception from fairer sex as over 82 Maruti Suzuki cars, all driven by women, turned up for the competition. The contest saw participants showcase their motoring skills and agility at navigating the driver to finish the rally precisely.
Manohar Bhat, Vice President, Marketing, Maruti Suzuki said, “Maruti Suzuki has been associated with motorsports for over 2 decades. Each year, we have seen increasing interest from women motorsports enthusiasts. The women car rally is a good opportunity for women motorsport enthusiasts to gauge their preparedness for some bigger rallies – like Maruti Suzuki Raid-de-Himalaya, Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm and Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare. Besides, rallying teaches road discipline and helps us promote road safety. The driving skills like enhanced braking, skid correction, tackling multiple terrains etc which participants pick up during motorsport events like this rally, have an immediate impact on improving the safety during real time driving.”
