Skoda @ the Auto Expo 2012!

Skoda India may have disappointed us by not showcasing the Citigo at the Auto Expo this year, but the Czech car maker gave us a few other reasons to cheer. The Fabia Scout has finally been unveiled in India and with that Skoda has also given us a few details on what you could expect at its market launch.

The Scout will be powered by the same 1.6 litre TDI motor that currently does duty on the Rapid; the 1.6 petrol unfortunately isn’t a part of the initial planning. The car will get a raised suspension setup for better ground clearance, and even 15’’ wheels will come as standard. The drivetrain remains the same, which means the Scout misses out an all-wheel drive. However, the Scout gets a rough-use body cladding which prevents scrapes and dirt from damaging the body panels. Not to forget, the Scout will even get Projector headlamps as standard for added styling!  The market launch of the Scout is still a few months away, which means we’ll have to wait a little for the price list to be disclosed.

The Czech car maker also showcased the RS-2000 concept, which is based on the rally-oriented version of the Fabia hatch. The Roadster has been made as a tribute to the brand’s outstanding achievements in the motorsport world. The Concept boasts of a wide-body kit, 18 inch alloy-wheels, front & rear spoiler and to top it all up a traditional green-and-white rally livery.  An official, who didn’t wish to be named, said that “Skoda is amazed by the response that the Roadster got, which has got them to think about its market-launch in India.” On being questioned if it will actually happen, he just gave us a wide grin.

The brand which falls under the Volkswagen group showcased its complete line-up, and kept its focus on the newly launched Rapid Sedan. It also unveiled a special edition of the Yeti SUV, which sported body coloured bumpers unlike the regular version. We are yet to know, if it will make it to the showrooms or not, however if it does it may breathe some life into the sales figures of the SUV.

What caught our eyes the most was the Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo edition. We hope Skoda does launch this very car in India. Black Top, smoked headlamps with projectors give the Fabia a different appeal all together.
