DC Cars in Motor show 2014

AVANTI

DC Design of India has debuted its Avanti supercar at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. The Avanti - whose name is a reference to the Studbaker Avanti from Tintin comics - will be put on sale at a starting price of $56,277. Initially, DC Design will only build 200 units per year, but it hopes to gradually increase production to about 2,000 units a year.

The new Avanti looks to have taken its design inspiration from vehicles like the Ferrari 458 Italia or the latest array of Lotus concepts with its aerodynamic slopes and aggressive angles, but its performance figures are far from the realm of these popular supercars.

Initially, it will be powered by a Ford four-cylinder turbo engine that delivers a total of 265 horsepower, mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Even its weight is too far off, especially considering that its body is made of aluminum and its body panels in fiberglass. It weighs in at 3,440 pounds, which allows the drivetrain to sprint the Avanti from 0 to 60 mph in less than 7 seconds.

If DC Design would have promised a really cool sports car and delivered the Avanti, then we would have been excited about it. As of right now, the only thing supercar-like for this vehicle is the outlandish look, and that’s not something everyone will enjoy.

The new car has a top speed of 160 kmph and can dismiss 100kmph from standstill in just 9 seconds.

CHEVROLET ADRA

Chevrolet Adra SUV to be launched in 2017

General Motors had presented its latest compact SUV christened Adra in sub four meter segment at Auto Expo 2014 in New Delhi. Since the Adra is still at concept stage and is being developed by GM’s Indian research team located at Bangalore it will take time for production ready version to be available at showrooms. The Adra SUV is a source of pride for GM’s local technical team being the first product by them in collaboration with its Australian design group and its platform is based on Chevrolet’s “Gamma 2” platform therefore it appears similar to Ford Ecosport and Renault Duster. According to GM’s strategy for Indian markets, instead of developing new models the focus will be on strengthening brand value and improving product portfolio. Therefore Adra is based on Chevrolet’s global design concept and also is perfect for current Indian customers’ demand for compact sports utility cars.

Engine Specifications – The Chevrolet Adra is likely to be made available to customers with two fuel engine options comprising 1.3 liter multijet diesel engine and 1.2 liter Smartech petrol engine for enhanced performance. As the car has not been put through any mileage tests exact figures are not available nor has General Motors made any official announcement about power and capacity of either diesel or petrol engines.

Exterior Features – The Adra car’s body structure has been built to engage in off-road adventures for families so they can travel long distances in relative comfort. Its rooftop luggage rails make it convenient to attach detachable luggage rack on roof without causing any damage. The curved wheel arches and thick plastic underbody cladding extending to all four edges and wheel arches along with high ground clearance give Adra a rugged feel. The car has a compact body with 16 inch alloy wheels and outward curved rearview mirrors. Its rear lights have a trendy design shaped like masked eyes with LED lights in center spanning across both sides of boot cover. Its muscular rear bumper has chrome outlined fog lights on both sides with cylindrical exhaust. The car’s roof and front pillars are in black while body is of a different color.

Interior Specifications - The car is a four seater with elegant seats fitted with fabric while there is leather cover on steering wheel. Its front hand-rest section has neat sections for ash tray and holding glass or bottles. Its side profile is highlighted with groved lines across its sides running from front door to rear stop lights and in lower section between both wheel arches while front façade has large hexagonal air dam with golden bowtie on slim radiator grille. The seats have been placed at higher than usual elevation to provide more legspace and improve visibility.

Safety Features – General Motors is likely to present this compact SUV with combination of disc and drum brakes along with ABS and EBD. To balance its squat body at high speeds the car is likely to be fitted with strong suspension comprising McPherson struts and coil spring with tubular stabilizer bar system like its existing models.

Harley-Davidson -Street 750

Harley Davidson has just launched the Street 750 for India at the Auto Expo 2014 at a mouth watering price of Rs. 4.1 lakh ex-showroom Delhi. Harley India MD, Mr. Anoop Prakash went on to say that bookings will start on March 1st and deliveries will commence soon after. The price point is definitely going to be the talk of the town for a good long time, it take the fight right to the Hyosungs, especially the soon to be announced GV250 Aquila, which is expected in the price range of 3L. The Street 750 produces 65 Nm of torque at 4000 RPM from the new Revolution X engine. We think design wise it strays away from the typical Harley and sticks to design principles that are not typical Harley, practical and conservative. With the max torque coming is so low, even with the 6 speed transmission riding around the city will not be that much of a pain. There has not been any mention of any other colour option and at least for now it looks like the Street 750 will only be available in Black. One important thing that we noticed was that the Street 750 has the best ground clearance from among all the other Harley’s, not bad considering the roads it will be subjected to here in India. No word on the Street 500 as well during the press Q&A. More photographs and videos from the launch to follow, watch this space.

The Street 750 comes powered by the all-new Revolution X engine – a pure Harley-Davidson V-Twin engine specifically designed for urban riding. It is liquid-cooled to maintain peak performance both in the city and on the highway. A single overhead cam, four valves per head and a smooth-shifting 6-speed transmission all translate to provide an instant response on the throttle to move quickly from stop to go. Café-style speed screen, black front fork gaiters, all-black exhaust system and aggressive slash on the tail section deliver on Harley-Davidson’s signature Dark Custom attitude.

The Street 750 motorcycle retailed in India will also come fitted with premium Zapper tires from MRF designed for Harley-Davidson. Launched in India, the new Street from Harley-Davidson will also be built and exported to select international markets at the company’s assembly facility in Bawal, Haryana.
