Range Rover Celebrates 25 Years in the United States

The iconic Land Rover Range Rover was officially introduced to the United States 25 years ago this year in 1987.  To celebrate this milestone, Land Rover will host a special celebration in conjunction with the New York Auto Show and will invite consumers to an urban off-road adventure where they will drive 2012 model year vehicles at a custom-made course in the heart of New York City’s meatpacking district. In the past quarter century, the growth and acceptance of the Land Rover brand in the U.S. marks a true product and brand success story. That success is defined by loyal customers, a distinct authentic brand and consistent sales success.

The original Range Rover (colloquially known as the “Range Rover Classic”) established a new market segment for dual-purpose vehicles that could go almost anywhere and has been the platform for numerous technological innovations in the industry. Its unmatched capability, rich heritage, and favored status among world leaders, entertainment personalities, athletes and design visionaries has established the Range Rover as a benchmark icon.

Porsche is anticipating further positive sales growth across its range in India, and is enhancing its business set-up with the appointment of a new official importer. With immediate effect, Volkswagen Group Sales India Private Limited will become the official importer of all Porsche cars into India.

“With an increasingly affluent, upwardly mobile population, India is an important market for Porsche, with a promising future”, explains Bernhard Maier, Member of the Executive Board for Sales and Marketing. Within this company, the Porsche division will focus on all distribution-related areas for Porsche in India; and increasing the brands presence through the further development of the Porsche dealer network. Anil Reddi, Indian auto market expert, with almost 16 years of national and international automotive experience, will head the operation.

George Wills, Managing Director of Porsche Middle East and Africa FZE, says: “With this new agreement, we are looking forward to exploring the opportunities across India even further. Development of emerging markets is clearly important for Porsche’s future, and we are confident sales in the sub-continent will continue to grow in the coming years, especially with new Porsche models being introduced in the future.”

Since 2004, Porsche has delivered a total of 1,052 cars to discerning customers in India. In 2011, 85 per cent of total deliveries were Cayenne models.

Anil Reddi, Head of Porsche Division at Volkswagen Group Sales India Private Limited says: “Building on the growing success of Porsche in India isn’t a challenge; it’s something we are looking forward to embracing with pride.

“The Indian clientele expect a lot from their vehicles, and they will find Porsche not only meets, but exceeds, their expectations. I am confident that with our dedicated, professional team, we will take Porsche’s presence in India to the next level.

“The first highlight of our new cooperation will be the market introduction of the new generation Porsche 911 Carrera, an iconic sports car many said could never be bettered.”

As well as the continuing growth in sales of the Cayenne, Reddi expects a great deal of interest in the soon to be launched Panamera Diesel, and excitement is already building over the recently announced launch of the Macan – the new Porsche SUV which is expected to roll off the German production lines in 2013.

Difference Between ABS & EBD Braking System

What Is ABS ?

Anti-Lock braking System system or ABS is a safety system which prevents the wheels on a moving vehicle from locking up(or cease while rotating) while braking. ABS offers improved vehicle control over dry and especially slippery surfaces by reducing the braking distance but it can also increase the braking distance in case of loose surfaces like snow, gravel etc. Ever since the invention of ABS, it has been evolving and the recent systems not only prevent wheel locking but also electronically control the front-to-rear brake bias, which we know as Electronic brake force system, Traction control system, Emergency brake assist or Electronic stability control.
When brakes are applied under heavy loads,  the braking pressure becomes high resulting in heavy braking or in other words locking up of wheels. The ABS overcomes this by monitoring the wheel speed and releases pressure on each wheel brake lines in the form of rapid pulses switching between different brake lines. which prevent locking-up.

Preventing lock-up under heavy braking helps the driver in maintaining control over the vehicle. In modern ABS an individual brake line is provided for each of the four wheel enabling different braking pressures for different road surfaces of the wheels.

What Is EBD ?

Electronic brake- force distribution system also called as Electronic brake-force limitation is an automobile brake technology that automatically varies the amount of force applied to each of a vehicle’s brakes, based on road conditions, speed, loading, etc.

EBD system is  always coupled with anti-lock brake-force system. The most important function of EBD is to maintain vehicular control with variation in braking pressure applied to each wheel in order to maximize stopping power. Generally most of the weight of all vehicles is carried by the front end so the EBD ensures less braking pressure at the rear end to avoid skidding. But in some EBD’s the distribution of braking pressure at the rear end is more initially when the brakes are applied  before the effects of weight transfer comes into play.

Tata Indica with 90 Ps 1.3L Multi-jet Engine

Tata Motors has been exploring all possibilities on its Indica platform and this latest spy picture of Indica with changes to the front is one of the classic examples. From the picture the front of the Indica gets the Indigo CS treatment with double barrel headlamps, wider grill and prominent bumper.

The major change is under the hood. From the badge on the rear and side it is evident that Indica now gets 90 Ps 1.3 L Multi-jet diesel engines. Till now Indica was available with 1.4L TDi and Turbo engine and a 1.3L Multi-jet diesel was long awaited. With the new engine, the price of Indica will go up which might not be a good news for cab drivers. Indica with power steering ss presently available at Rs. 5.75 lakh on-road Bangalore which might go up to Rs. 6.50 lakh with the new engine.

Tata Indica has been a very good vehicle in terms of price factor. The running cost of Indica very cheap, no wonder cabbies prefer it to any other cars. Indica offers good interior space as well and can seat 5 persons in good comfort. With the new engine there will be a big boost in Indica’s performance, which it lacked right from its inception.
