All New Hyundai i20 2014

The current generation of the Hyundai i20 was launched internationally in 2008, and at the end of the same year in India. It was a big hatchback that was loading to the brim with features never heard of before in the segment, and the car is pretty popular because it is a value-for-money proposition.  The i20 was refreshed in 2012 to make it’s design more in line with Hyundai’s ‘fluidic’ design language. Now Hyundai readying the new Hyundai i20 to replace the car in 2015.

The new Hyundai i20 will launch on 11th of August 2014, Hyundai India has officially opened the pre-bookings of all new The Elite i20 from Hyundai. Below are the official renderings which showcase the design philosophy of the car. The new i20 has been designed in Europe design center of Hyundai at Germany.

The 2014 New Elite i20 from Hyundai has been designed based on the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design principle from Hyundai. Some of the major design elements include sleeker headlapms, bolder front grille with larger hexagonal design, powerful stance with large hood. C-Pillars have been darkened to make it look more sporty and larger in size, and it have some similar cues in some popular cars like EcoSport. The rear is also very neatly designed with sleek tail lamp combination clusters. It somewhat resembles the Brazilian cousin of i20, the HB20.

At the front the new i20 gets headlights which look like elongated versions of the ones on the Grand i10/Xcent, the grille is slim and the lower air-dam is prominent. The design is a bit of a departure from Hyundai’s ‘fluidic’ design, there are some elements which are similar to Ford’s ‘kinetic’ design. Move to the side and it is pretty evident that the i20 has grown, this is good news as the increase in cabin space and luggage space will be much appreciated. At the rear you see tail-lamp units which seem to be inspired by the HB20 sold in Brazil, they are slim units which give the car a unique look.

new i20 will be powered by a 1.2 litre (or smaller) petrol engine and a 1.5 litre (or smaller) diesel engine. Currently the i20 is powered by a 1.2-litre, 84 BHP, 116 Nm petrol engine which is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, a 1.4-litre, 90 BHP, 224 Nm, diesel engine which is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and a 1.4-litre, 100 BHP, 139 Nm, petrol engine which is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. These engine and transmission combinations could be carried over to the new i20 too.

Toyota's i-ROAD Concept

Toyota has launched the first public trials of its ultra-compact i-Road electric three-wheeled “personal mobility vehicle” to find out how it shapes up in the cut-and-thrust of real-world urban driving.

They started real-world consumer trials of its unique i-Road urban electric vehicle in its native Japan.

Control is via a regular steering wheel and pedals, and power is provided by two, 2 kW electric motors acting on the front wheels. That's only five horsepower in total, but that's still more than your average 50cc scooter and plenty for punting around the city.

It's illustrative of the fact that cars are very much a product of the roads and traffic conditions they've been designed for.

While large, comfortable, powerful vehicles have traditionally dominated in the United States, small and maneuverable, cheap-to-run cars are hugely popular in Japan.

Where registration, tax and fuel are expensive, Japan's size-restricted "kei cars" dominate the streets. But even those create pollution and congestion, something the i-Road avoids with its electric powertrain and 33-inch width--no more than a maxi-scooter.

Toyota to Launch New City-Rivaling Sedan

Toyota, the world’s largest selling car manufacturers, hasn’t had any real success in India in anything under Innova. Their approach for entry cars is flawed. The initial batches of Etios had terrible cost cutting the most glaring of them was the rain water seeping inside because there was no rubber on the doors!

However, the recent Etios twins are slightly better but that impression of built to cost cars is always there. Apart from Etios sedan and Liva hatchback, Toyota has recently launched their pseudo crossover hatch Etios Cross which looks uninspiring and if it fails, Toyota should not blame the market!

The upcoming C segmenter will be placed between the Etios and the Corolla. The company also wants to shift from an image of a customer base in their mid and late 30s, which it has developed, thanks to its products appealing to a mature public, to a younger customer base which prefer cars which are sporty and performance oriented. Well, Toyota you can’t do that by plonking a puny 1.4L motor on a D-segment sedan and hope for miracles!

Let us see what Toyota finally comes up with, but for God’s sake from the scratch design a car with proper driver-side instrument cluster!
